Ultralight Sleeping Bags

Ultralight sleeping bags generally weigh less than three pounds and are great for avid backpackers and campers.

When hiking or backpacking, it is important to make sure that the backpack you are carrying with you and everything in it is as light as possible.  Backpacking through rough terrains and packing light will make it much easier to move and you will be able to cover more ground in less time.  This is why it is so important to own an ultralight sleeping bag that is good enough to keep you warm and comfortable throughout the night.

Most avid backpackers understand that you should only take with you the necessary items and goods you’ll need to survive.  And the total weight of these goods should weigh well under 5 pounds.  This means you’ll have to cut back on the main items and make sure that your backpack, shelter, and bag are as light as possible.

Ultralight sleeping bags generally weight just over one pound.  This may seem highly impossible that a big bag that is made to keep you warm at night is going to weigh just a pound…but it’s not.  They are actually surprisingly warm and comfortable and are extremely compact and can fit easily into most backpacks.  In fact, many of these one pound ultralight sleeping bags are even warmer than their heavier counterparts.

These bags weigh less because they are made with extremely light weight highly insulated materials.  They cut out all of the extra materials you might find on fu fu designer sleeping bags and just stick with the important materials to keep you comfortable and warm.  Some of these bags are very fragile and require great care to keep it in good condition.  Others seem indestructible and are made for the rugged outdoors.

The ultralight one-pound sleeping bags are generally summer bags made for temperatures no lower than forty or fifty degrees.  If you plan on packing or hiking in colder temperatures, you will be hard pressed to find a bag under four or five pounds.  However, these days they do make bags for colder temperatures they weigh right around three pounds.  In order to make these bags light and still keep you warm, most of these sleeping bags are made of down material.  They also make bags out of other synthetic materials to keep the weight down too.

You have to take good care of the ultralight sleeping bags because of how fragile and delicate they are.  These bags aren’t the cheapest sleeping bags on the market, but are a necessity for rugged hikers.  Be very careful in washing and caring for them and follow the instructions as written.  You don’t want to have to spend more money each year buying a new ultralight sleeping bag.
